Kenmore Elite Washing Machine Problems And Their Solutions

Kenmore Elite Washing Machine Problems And Their Solutions

Is your Kenmore Elite washing machine acting up? Washing machine problems usually sprout a year after using it. If you are not taking good care of your washer, it can even cause more washer problems.

Diagnose your washer problems first. Learn more about the parts of your washer so you can determine the parts that are more likely to act up.

Here are some of the most common Kenmore washer problems and their plausible solutions:

1. Washer Smell

Why this happens: It is not just Kenmore. Most modern washers seem to have this problem. Front loaders are quite prone to this problem because of excess moisture inside. The machine does not effectively dispel all the moisture leading to the accumulation of moisture inside and that will eventually prompt the appearance of molds.

It is probably caused by detergent residues as well. You have to clean your washer regularly or lessen your usage of the detergent.

Solution: Clean your washer. Try running an empty hot water cycle and add half a bag of baking soda and one cup of distilled white vinegar. Allow this solution to circulate inside and dissolve molds or mildew. This will also help clean the drum and make it look shiny.

2. Code F21 and F33 error

Why this happens: The f21 error is the slow drain error. It usually appears when the machine is not draining water. Kenmore has to drain water out in approximately 8 minutes. If it still detects water inside after the allotted time, this error will appear.

The F33 error will tell you that there is something wrong with the pump drive system of the machine. This is the same pump that drains out the water.

Solution: If you still have your clothes inside the washer, remove them. Siphon the water out or remove the water inside bucket by bucket. It may take a while but you need this to temporarily drain the water.

If the pump is not working, you should try replacing the central control unit of your Kenmore washer. This is probably best done by a professional as the professional will test the functionality of the pump first.

If you are getting F21 errors only, try unplugging your washer for about an hour. After the allotted time, reset the central control unit. If this will not correct the error, you need to check the drain hose for signs of obstructions. If the hose is kinked, you need to straighten it out to make water flow out seamlessly.

3. The spin cycle is too fast and the vibration is getting out of hand

Why this happens: Most washers have a very fast spin cycle. They run in about 1000RPM speed or more. This is needed to extract most of the moisture in clothes. This way, you no longer have to dry your clothes for a long time in the dryer.

Solution: The next time you do your laundry, make sure that you load the washer evenly. Uneven loads can cause vibrations and weird noise. Also do not spin very thick clothes and those clothes with protruding buckles or studs.

The bottom part of the washer has to be firmly planted on the floor as well. You might need to use a platform to ensure that the washer is sitting on even surface. You can also try using anti vibration pads that will help muffle out the sound of your washer.

4. Water goes back to the washer after draining

Why this happens: It can be caused by a blocked drain pump or a malfunctioning inlet water control. If the drain pump is blocked, most of the water drained out will go back because they cannot pass through effortlessly.

If the machine has already been switched off but water is still coming back to the washer drum, it is most likely caused by a malfunctioning inlet water control valve.

Solution: Replace the water valve with a new one.

5. F28 code errors

Why this happens: This is a serial communication error which is problem caused by a broken CCU or MCU. The control boards are the problem.

Solution: There is no other solution to this than have the affected control board replaced by the manufacturing company. If your washer is under an extended warranty or the original warranty, you can use that.

If you can't get someone from Kenmore to fix the problem, you are probably better off buying a new washer.

6. Water pressure is low

Why this happens: It is probably caused by a dirty water filter. If your other water sources have a high water pressure and only your washer seems to have a lot water pressure, you should check the filter. It can be clogged by collected debris.

Solution: You need to clean the water filter in soapy water. Use a soft-bristled brush to get rid of hardened minerals or debris.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Why isnt my washing machine filling up with water all the way?
My washing machine is not filling all the way, what is wrong or what should i do?

    • ANSWER:
Depending on the make and model of your machine there could be more than one answer. If the load is full it could be that you have the water setting on low. If the load is half full it could be that your washing machine has a sensor to determine this an adjust the water level accordingly.

The machine should fill up about seven eighths full on a full load. A little bit of air is necessary to allow the water a little movement around the washing and lets proper soap suds form.

If it never fills up to what you would call full, no matter what the setting or amount of items in the machine it’s time to get a repairer in to look at it.

  2. QUESTION:
How can I descale my washing machine?
My washing machine is getting really noisy when it spins, so I think it needs descaling.

    • ANSWER:
I’m not sure about the area you live in and the water type, but when ever my washing machine makes funny noises, it’s either the bearings, or a belt.

I recommend you call a repair company, as I seriously doubt “lime scale” or “hard water deposits” would cause noise when it spins.

If it is scale (seriously, I think it’s not likely) you can try running 1/2 gallon of plain white vinegar through a regular wash load. Worst case you waste the vinegar- It’s cheap, if it helps, run another 1/2 gallon again and see if the stain/noise dissapears.

If it does not, likely you need to call a repair co for the bearings or belts.

      Good Luck

  3. QUESTION:
What kind of washing machine should you get if you run a boarding barn?
Would a conventional washing machine work or would something else be better?
Are there any other ways of cleaning blankets besides a washing machine?

    • ANSWER:
If you are planning to wash turnout rugs or heavy stable rugs then you need a special machine for that.

      http://www.washinghorserugs.co.uk/washing-equipment.php

      http://www.laundrymachines.co.uk/page.php?xPage=set_equine.html

      They are expensive.

If, on the other hand, it is just for “normal” stuff – boots, numnahs, sweat rugs etc can all go into an ordinary machine ( although we had to adapt the filter on ours as it kept getting clogged even if we brushed the hair off first) I can get most of my stable rugs into my machine but the turnouts go to the Equine Laundry.

Cleaning a rug without a washing machine ?
Yeah that’s fun. You need a hot day, a clean yard and a stiff brush. ( A jetwash can be useful too) If you have friends ” helping” you it usually ends up as a water fight.

  4. QUESTION:
What would cause a washing machine to only fill up so far then start draining?
My washing machine will only fill up to wash on low/med level but if set any higher than that it won’t hold the water it will start draining when it gets so full.

    • ANSWER:
If your drain pipe is too short and the water gets above that point it will start draining out. You might want to check that. For some troubleshooting help try going here:

  5. QUESTION:
Whats the difference between your mom and a washing machine?
The washing machine doesn’t follow me around for a week after I put a load in it. Booya!

    • ANSWER:
The washing machine makes less noise, too.

  1. QUESTION:
How to Paint a Coleman Stove With Satin Paint?
Coleman stoves are used for camping and barbecuing. As these stoves are used, the paint finishes can get scratched and worn off. If the bare metal is left exposed to the weather it will begin to rust. A heat-resistant paint is required for repainting due to the high stove-top temperatures. Satin paint is durable and holds up well to cleaning due to its low-shine luster.

    • ANSWER:
Shake up the bottle of finish satin paint until the mixing ball rattles freely. Hold the can about 12 inches away from the stove’s surface and paint one side of the stove at a time. Allow this side to dry until dry to the touch and then reposition the stove to allow for painting. Repeat this process until the entire stove has been repainted with satin paint. Apply a second coat after allowing the first coat to dry for 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How do I convert from gas range to electric range?
Old yucky gas range nice new electric range. I know I have to have the gas line capped off but how do I switch the plug outlets or can I ?

    • ANSWER:
The best and safest way would be to call an electrician and have them install a 220 outlet for you. Sure you could do it yourself, but if you’re not exactly sure what you’re doing, you could end up with an electrical fire or screwing up the nice new electric range. Better safe than sorry.

  2. QUESTION:
What is the best kind of electric range to buy for your home?
I would like a stainless steel electric range but I am not sure what brand name is best. I have a Frigidaire right now and I hate it! It beeps a lot for no reason and comes on by its self. I will never buy that brand again.Help!

    • ANSWER:
There are soooo many! Electrolux, GE, LG, Bosch, Whirlpool, Amana, etc. Depends on what you want in a range, do you want glass top? Does it have to have a self-cleaner? Do you want it to have a warming drawer? Do you need it to Broil? Convection?!

I have a stainless LG and love it, but it took me several trips to the store before I made a final decision.

  3. QUESTION:
How do I change from an electric range to a gas one?
I have an electric range and I hate it. I want a gas one but I dont have the gas inputs in to my house. Any ideas on where I can get help in converting from electric to gas?

    • ANSWER:
Well first off, call your gas company about ga slines going into your house. If they offer service, they can tell you more about how to get the gas lines installed. BUT, its goanna cost you.

If you already have service, but just need a line ran to your kitchen, then it wont be too expensive. If you dont have service in you area, then most likely the gas company wont bother to install a line just for you. So…. Propane would probably be your best option for this, but again, it comes at a cost.

You have to get the tank installed, have lines ran from the tank. Sounds simple, but its more of a pain in the a.. to do.

Heres a better question to ask yourself. Why do you want to get a gas range? Is it the cost of using a gas one over an electric one is considerably lower? If thats the case, then going through the trouble of doing this as well as the cost just to save a few bucks a month, hardly justifies it.

  4. QUESTION:
How can I identify a GE combination swich on my Electric Range?
How can I identify the combination swich on a GE Electric Range and what is its purpose?

    • ANSWER:
Go on line and search for GE electric range and your model. A lot of appliance makers have user manuals on line.

  5. QUESTION:
Is it difficult to replace an electric range?
I have a free standing electric range (that sits flush against the wall) that needs to be replaced. Can I just do that myself if I have it delivered? Is it a simple procedure? I can have the old one picked up by the bulk trash people. But I don’t want to screw up the installation. I know this may sound stupid, but is it just a matter of plugging the new one in where the old one was? Or is it more complicated than that? Of course I’m replacing the old one with a new one of the same size, components, etc. Thanks for the help!

    • ANSWER:
This should not be difficult. You will need to pull the old one forward, unplug it and move it out. You will probably need to clean up under where the old had been. Then plug in the new stove and push it into place. Only possible complications would be if the floor was not level (for that there are typically four feet on the bottom of the unit, which screw in our out and can be adjusted with a wrench when the range is sitting on its feet. Also, to make the range level with the counter you may also wish to adjust these feet.

Commercial Induction Cooktop Technology

Commercial Induction Cooktop Technology

Commercial induction cooking is rising in popularity, as foodservice professionals discover the benefits of induction cooktop ranges. Busy commercial kitchens in the back of crowded restaurants can get messy and chaotic, with several chefs cooking various different dishes as orders are placed, stoves continually heating up the cooking space, and servers waiting to bring fresh, hot food from the kitchen to the front of house. The efficiency and precision provided by induction cooktop technology can greatly improve the foodservice industry, changing the way chefs and waitstaff cook and serve food. Read on to learn how.Improved Food: Induction cooking ranges use electromagnetic current to heat the pan directly, rather than indirectly heating the cooktop‘s surface or the air around the pan. With direct heat to the pan, professional chefs can cook food faster than with traditional gas and electric stoves. Induction technology heats food evenly and consistently, eliminating the need to adapt to a range’s “hot spots” and “cold spots,” and resulting in food that is cooked perfectly throughout. Many complex foods, such as sauces or risotto, require consistent, precise, low heat that is constantly delivered through commercial induction cooktop technology.Improved Service: At the front of the house, diners enjoying an evening out expect food served to their table quickly and piping hot. As orders pile up in the kitchen, induction cooking technology can speed up the cooking process, so that chefs can cook food faster and keep patrons satisfied. The high, efficient heat of induction cooktop ranges can boil or blacken food in an instant, while precise consistency and accurate controls keep delicate foods from burning or boiling over. With a kitchen that operates faster and more smoothly, diners can enjoy improved service and high-quality meals that keep them coming back for more.Improved Kitchen: Commercial induction cooktops are cleaner, safer and more energy-efficient than traditional gas and electric stoves. Because induction cooking technology heats the pan, not the cooktop, the surface remains cool to the touch. This reduces the risk of injury caused by burns, and eliminates the mess caused by foods spilling over and burning on the surface. Induction cooking is also a more energy-efficient method of cooking. More advanced induction cooktops deliver 90 to 95 percent of the heat they generate, in contrast to the 30 to 50 percent delivered by most gas and electric stovetops. By saving so much energy, the kitchen becomes a cooler space with lower utility bills and greener cooking methods.Improving food, service and kitchen operations makes induction cooking technology ideal for busy commercial kitchens.

  2. QUESTION:
Is it possible to change my electric cooktop to a gas one? What should I keep in mind when selecting one?
The electric cooktop thats in my kitchen is from MagicChef. I am looking to change this to a gas cooktop.

    • ANSWER:
Sure – you just need to have a gas supply line and shut-off valve coming up in the cabinet underneath your cooktop. Depending on how accessible your basement or crawlspace is, and where your gas line is located, that can be either a reasonable or very expensive addition.

For efficiency, make sure your new gas cooktop has piezoelectric ignitors. You will waste money if the burners have pilot flames.

  3. QUESTION:
What is causing my cooktop grill to blow fuses?
I have a grill on my cooktop stove and when it heats up it causes the 20 amp breaker in my kitchen to pop. When it cools down it’s fine. I even tried using an extension cord to plug it into the opposite wall and it did the same thing. I’m thinking when it heats up somehow it loses it’s ability to control the amps/ voltage? Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
If the extension cord trick tripped the same breaker, the breaker is going bad. Have a licensed electrician replaced the breaker.

If it tripped a different breaker then the current modulator in the unit is going bad. Maybe time to get a new cooktop

  4. QUESTION:
How do I install a gas cooktop to replace an electric cooktop? I already have an existing gas line in place.?
I would like to replace an electric cooktop with a gas one. There is already an existing gas line in the cabinet beneath the cooktop which is capped.

    • ANSWER:
the install of the cook top is exactly the same. the only difference is you screw on the regulator to the cook top and connect the gas line. it’s a simple job, check out this how to site.

  5. QUESTION:
Is it a good value to have the builder upgrade to gas cooktop?
The standard features of the town house I’m buying come with a electric cooktop. To have the builder upgrade it to gas, including hookup, it’d cost 0. Should I let the builder do it, or it is a better value if I get it done myself, and perhaps sell the electric cooktop for some pocket changes?

Along the same line, would you spend 5 to upgrade the oven, dishwasher, and microwave to stainless steel?
I am more interested in whether I should have the home builders do it or have them done “after-market”, NOT whether I want gas or electric. I want gas.

    • ANSWER:
This is purely a risk mitigation question. If you have the builder do it, you have the builders liability insurance in place if the pipe leaks and the townhouse blows up. If you do it, your homeowners insurance may cover it unless it is shown that you made some kind of mistake or didn’t get the right permits. I would also imagine that you doing work such as this would result in the builder voiding his warranty.

Given the popularity of gas cooktops, it would be a good investment to have it done. Here’s a quick question though: If the gas lines are run, does that mean the 220V power is not? If at all possible, I would have both run to allow the choice. To run 220V later is the same pain in the neck as running an aftermarket gas line.

5 for SS is not much money. If the townhouse is an investment (i.e. Flip) then get the SS as most people are easily impressed by shiny appliances. If you’re going to live there and use them, I’d spring for better appliances before pretty ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Are there natural gas ranges with automatic shut-off system?
I have a natural gas range with electric spark ignition (no pilot). If the flame is put out because of air flow or any other reason, the gas flow is not shut off automatically. In many countries, gas ranges come with a very simple device (i.e., a thermocouple) that shuts off the gas flow in such situations. What mechanism is designed in Canadian appliances to prevent the danger of gas emission?

    • ANSWER:
i do not believe so…….in the u.s. there is a simple fitting shut off device that attaches to the gas range flex connector that simply shuts down the flow if the connector is broken etc….this happens when a range is pulled out and the connector is broken – i strongly think this will work for if a large amount of gas is blowing, i.e. (burner) it will shut itself down – might want to look into this..

  2. QUESTION:
Are gas ranges supposed to get hot on the outside?
This is my first time using a gas range (instead of electric). We just bought a house with one and it is about two years old. When we cook things in the oven at about 400 F, the front and the top get VERY hot. I can only touch it briefly (a fraction of a second) without getting burned. The top is surprisingly hot too. All of the electric ranges I’ve used never got this hot. Is it possible something is broken on it or is this normal?

    • ANSWER:
You most likely have a range that is not self cleaning. You may be more familiar with self cleaning ranges. Self cleaning ranges are more heavily insulated due to the fact that they get up to 950 degrees F. during self clean and if they were not as well insulated it could be extremely dangerous,

The cooking surfaces of any range with the oven turned on will get hot regardless if it is gas or electric, self cleaning or not and you could receive a burn from momentary contact.

You say that you were baking at 400 F. That is 50 degrees hotter than the normal baking temperature of 350 F. so you could expect things to be hotter than normal. The longer the time that you are baking will also have a factor in how hot the range gets as well.

Gas range has become very important equipment in every kitchen. It plays a big role in making us prepare delightful dishes for our family to partake. But then, it is not easy to choose a gas range. Among the many available kinds, models and brands of gas range, it will surely give you a headache what gas range to purchase. Many home owners especially mothers have been disappointed when the gas range that they bought did not satisfy their needs and instead gave undesirable result to the food they are cooking. One common reason for this problem is that buyers sometimes think of the price of the gas range and neglect to consider the quality. They chose cheap brands thinking that it is practical to but them than the more expensive ones. In buying a gas range that would last for a life time means that you should check out brands with reasonable prices but are made of high quality materials.Visit several stores that offer gas ranges and check out the dimensions of the product and see to it that it will fit inside the area of your kitchen. Do not buy a gas range that is too big for your kitchen and little room will be left for you to move around when cooking. Accidents often happen when there is little space for a cook to move around. Before finally purchasing the gas range you have chosen, dont forget to check out or ask a sales person if the gas range you are interested to buy has a flame safety device. A flame safety device can help avoid accidents especially when kids try to turn on and play with the gas range. Kids are fascinated with new stuff inside the home and they might try using the gas range which can possibly lead to accident. It would be best to ask the dealer of the gas range on what special safety features their brand has to offer.Another thing is to choose a gas range with two or more different sizes of burner. This is to accommodate different pans or plates you will use for the recipes you will cook. It is also a good choice to have a gas range with oven that fits a whole chicken or a turkey so youll have a wonderful thanksgiving.Gas ranges also come in different style and color so before choosing what kind of gas range to buy, visualize first if its color fits your kitchen or not and if the style will complement well with your kitchen. Remember that there are three (3) things visitors usually look in a kitchen: the table, the refrigerator and the gas range, better choose wisely.Be sure that the gas range oven you bought are in good condition and if possible, try it our first before making the purchase so you dont have any regrets.

  2. QUESTION:
What do you need to look for when buying a gas range?
I’m wanting to replace our electric stove with a gas range. What do I need to look for when choosing a gas range? What do more expesive ranges have that cheaper ones don’t? Are their any features that you have found that you can’t live without? Any brand suggestions would be helpful too.

    • ANSWER:
The first thing is sealed burners, so that if something does overflow it doesn’t get inside the top. They make cleanup a breeze. Also, self-cleaning oven is nice. If you want to cook like the pros, high output burners and if you want to bake or roast well , a convection fan helps cook more evenly. The more expensive ranges have more features,(bells and whistles) it is really up to you to decide just how much stove is right for you.

The last one we bought was Kitchen aide, but there are lots of ranges to choose from. Gas ranges are always more expensive then electric!

A good basic gas range with sealed burners and self cleaning oven should be around the 0.00 price point! I hope this helps.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What baking oven gets to temperature the fastest?
What oven has the shortest preheat or gets to its temperature the fastest for baking?

    • ANSWER:
it depends on the baking type and the element source, with exposed elements you will achieve a faster temp achievement, with a hidden element, it takes heating the cover first (usually metal then the entire oven cell. Additionally, if you have an electric cell and it is on a 208 (that happens in high rises or apartments often) instead of a 220 you can add about 4 mintues to the pre-heat time.

i prefer convection baking and my dacor achieves temp in 3 to 5 minutes depending the temp i’m going for.

      good luck!

  2. QUESTION:
My small electic oven browns my cakes(top and bottom) with the insides undone. Can someone help?
The oven has only 2 racks – I keep the cake in the upper rack, set the temp. to 170 C(as given in the oven‘s booklet) and bake for 25-30 mts. As a result my cakes are all dry and hard on the outside and sticky inside. Should i reduce the temperature and for how long should i bake it or is it a problem with my oven?

    • ANSWER:
try turning the oven down to 150 take one rack out and place in middle of oven if this does not work try a different recipe for the cake Victoria sponge works well

  3. QUESTION:
How do you clean an oven that is not self cleaning without breathing the fumes?
My oven is not self cleaning, so I bought some oven cleaner. All the warnings on it scare me though. How are you supposed to clean your oven if the stuff is toxic to breath?

    • ANSWER:
I have a self cleaning oven but I clean it myself, it doesn’t smell as bad. I use Easy-Off cold oven cleaner, it is low fumes. (Read the label before you purchase, it tells you if it’s low fumes.) To prevent heavy cleaning, I put a steel cookie sheet with foil on it under what I am cooking to catch drips, then I let it cool and throw away the mess. If I forget, I sprinkle table salt on the spill while it is hot. Leave it on there through the next time you use the oven. When it is cool, wipe it out. The salt may make a slight burn smell at first but it goes away. You will have a slight dark mark on the bottom of the oven, but the thick stuff will be gone. I use the Oxy Brillo steel wool to lightly scrub the stain away.

  4. QUESTION:
How to indicate an oven‘s temperature when there is no indicator?
my oven doesn’t have a temperature indicator..there’s only low, high, and max to adjust the temperature.

    • ANSWER:
Buy one of these..they are only about 6.00 at WalMart..the dollar stores have them too cheaper..They hang in the oven from the racks…

  5. QUESTION:
Stove/oven combos – Do you have one with convection? How do you like it?
I am planning to purchase a new stove/oven combination, and I thought a convection oven would be great – but my aunt, who cooks and entertains a lot, says she hardly ever uses hers, and it’s not worth paying extra money for. What are your thoughts?

Sorry, I asked this before, but I only got two answers, and I hoped for more input.
What – is everybody with a convection oven cooking tonight?

    • ANSWER:
My oven has the convection feature, but I honestly never think to use it!

Well, I used it once, and not too successfully … I baked a pizza and it turned out both burned and mushy … how is that even possible?

I really thought (when I bought the range) that I would use it a lot, but I guess that using a regular “bake” setting for 20 years is just a habit with me. So I’m not the best person to ask, obviously!

I should give it another try. I worked for years and years in restaurants, and I know that professional chefs just LOVE their convection ovens. Maybe the convection feature is more suited to some items than others, and I should learn more about it!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How can I safely operate my gas stove?
I recently moved into a new apartment that has a gas stove. I have never used one before, and I am just really cautious about using it. Are there any tips for using it that would ensure there are no accidents?

    • ANSWER:
Make ensure before using your gas stove as following:
1.Check all the fittings as cyclinder/inlet pipe to gas stove, ensure fitting is ok.
      2. Check burners, switches and all nobs before using each time.
      3. Check proper ventilation and air circulation available in your kitchen room,
      4. Always switch off main regulator after the use.
      5. Use lighter, ignore matchboxes.
      6. If you feel any leakage or foul smell open all the windows and doors, do not blow any light, call immediately your supplier’s technician.

  2. QUESTION:
How much propane does a gas stove, rather than having an electric stove, use in a year?
I am thinking of switching from an electric stove to a gas stove using propane, but i have no idea how many gallons of propane would be used in a year for just this appliance. Propane will be used primarily to power a stand alone back-up generator, which is not a daily use!

    • ANSWER:
OK no laughing at this…but I sell propane and propane burning appliances!

You will save money on operating a gas stove versus an electric one. But it’s not a HUGE savings! It certainly isn’t enough of a difference to warrant throwing away a perfectly good electric one to install a gas one. If your electric unit is worn out, by all means switch to gas stove, you will save money in the long run.

A couple of other things to mention here though…If you have a finished basement under your kitchen it might be very difficult to get a gasline run to your stove, and that could get expensive. If the line can come straight through the wall or you have a crawl space it shouldn’t be too difficult.

The last thing I wanted to point out was the stove itself. I am a gas fitter who has installed a lot of appliances over the years, so I’ve spoken to a lot of people who have made this switch…I find that people who “bake” a lot…cookies, cakes etc..are happier with a hybrid stove. Meaning that it has an electric oven with gas top burners. The gas ovens seem to be difficult to maintain as even a temperature as an electric one. If you cook mostly, it isn’t an issue. A roast doesn’t care if the temperature fluctuates a bit, but for some baked things, it’s critical!

As to fuel consumption, stoves draw very little. If you used a 60,000 btu stove ( all burners and oven running at the same time) for an hour EVERY DAY for a year, you would burn about 200 gallons. So depending on how much you use it, a realistic number would be about 100 gallons a year at the most…

      That’s my professional opinion!

  3. QUESTION:
How do you convert a gas stove and heat to electric? Cheap?
Bills are high! I am interested on the cost of converting a gas stove and heating/ hot water to electric? Is there a how it your self? Just asking….

    • ANSWER:
first off, the cost per BTU is higher with electric over gas.
so unless you are running solar or wind power to some of the electricity, you’re still better off with gas.

a gas stove can’t be converted to electric, the conversion is to go buy an electric stove. can range from (used on craigs list) to 00.
      the heat is another story.

  4. QUESTION:
I was thinking to buy a Portable gas stove and a gas cylinder. Is it safe way to do?
    Hi,
I have electric stove facility in my apartment. There is no gas pipe in our apartment. Gas cooks faster than electric one.

I was thinking to buy a Portable gas stove and a gas cylinder. Use it in the kitchen. Is it safe way to do? I want to cook fast. I am fed up with the electric one.

    • ANSWER:
The portable gas stove will pump carbon monoxide into your apartment. Which can kill you, unless you are letting cold air into your apartment at the same time (letting carbon monoxide out).
      Just use the electric stove.

  5. QUESTION:
Why does water boil faster on an electric stove compared to a gas stove?
On the same settings, water boils faster on my electric stove compared to my gas stove.

So why does water boil faster on an electric stove, compared to a gas stove?

Thank you. I just want to know.

    • ANSWER:
Electric stove has no heat loss. In gas burner, a considerable amount of heat is lost. Also, as we go away from the flame, the heat decreases. So, it depends on the vessel too. If the vessel is curved(Here, we use vessels with curve), the gas stove will perform better, as the electric stove needs more contact area.
Any way, the main reason is heat loss.Stand near a working gas stove, and compare it with standing near an electric stove. In gas stove, you’ll feel the heat, in an electric stove, you won’t.

Gas Range Favored Over Electric Range Due To Its Noted Feature Of Precision Heating

Gas Range Favored Over Electric Range Due To Its Noted Feature Of Precision Heating

A stove forms the lifeline of the kitchen. You may choose a freestanding range, or a combined range, but you cant do without a stove. In the earlier times, only gas stoves were available. So, the only option a buyer has was to go in for a gas stove. But nowadays, with the introduction of electric stoves, it has become a tough task for the buyer to choose between a gas stove and an electric stove. As a result of advancement in technology, gas and electric stoves have come on parity with each other. In fact, the gas ranges have been redefined in such a manner that most of the cooks in small food joints to large restaurants prefer to cook with gas. This is due to the advantage provided by gas stoves that the person who is cooking can control the precise amount of heat beneath a pot which is not possible in case of electric stoves. With regard to other parameters, the decision regarding selecting a gas or electric range will be dependent on the requirements and preferences of a cook.A significant aspect on which this decision relies is the price of coking range. A comparatively cheaper option is to buy an electric range than a gas range. The difference in price is of a considerable amount and varies according to the model and features available in an electric range. A buyer will also require power supply of about 240-volt for an electric stove and generally, this much power supply is available in households. In addition to the higher cost of the gas range, additional cost is to be incurred on installing a gas pipeline and this cost is quite high as compared to the power supply of 240-volt. But in contrast, the cost of using a gas range is lesser than an electric range. So, it oversees the extra amount spent on purchasing a gas range.Owing to the characteristic of sealed burners being fitted in a gas cooking range, it does not messed up much if something spills on the gas cooktop. The electric ranges come with coiled burners which are attached with removable drip pans to avoid this problem. But with greater usage, these pans become dull and dirty.Hence, for those who do not have any issue with the budget, generally choose the option of gas stove. This is so because though they may have to pay extra bucks to a gas stove supplier as well as for installation of a gas line but it is just a one-time spending and they will avail the benefit of lower costs on its operation for the lifetime. With the assistance of internet, one can seek for the best gas stove suppliers online and buy from the one whom he or she may find to be trustworthy and dependable and whose product is durable.

What is the cost to convert an electic range kitchen to a gas range?
We’re looking at buying a home, but it has an electric range instead of a gas range. I HATE using electric and want to look into the cost of converting the kitchen to support my gas range. I have a gourmet range that is amazing. The owners are planning on replacing the refrigerator as well as the “classic” range for an updated range and hood. I was hoping to ask them to exclude the new refrigerator and range (we have both ourselves) in exchange for plumbing for a gas line.

    • ANSWER:
I recently had the same problem. I called a local plumber that will run gas lines. It ranges from 0 up. I thought it would be more. They also installed my gas range and made sure it was working properly. I paid 0 for the whole job. Mine was easy to get to and I already had gas in the house. Happy cooking. Gas rocks.

i do not believe so…….in the u.s. there is a simple fitting shut off device that attaches to the gas range flex connector that simply shuts down the flow if the connector is broken etc….this happens when a range is pulled out and the connector is broken – i strongly think this will work for if a large amount of gas is blowing, i.e. (burner) it will shut itself down – might want to look into this..

  4. QUESTION:
Is there such a thing as a flat top gas range?
I am looking for a flat top gas range but I don’t know if they make them. Please let me know of any place that sells them if they exist. Thank you for your help.

    • ANSWER:
I am also looking for a “flat top” gas cooking surface. If what you are looking for is an even surface to slide pots and pans around on your cooktop you may want to check out the following:

      Wolf 36” gas range top
      “Low Profile continuous grate.
Just looking at a Wolf gas cooktop makes you want to try a new recipe. From highest heat to subtlest simmer, total control is at your fingertips. The sealed burners deliver 15,000 Btu of heat and produce a continuous flame at even the lowest settings.”

      Viking
      “Continuous Grate Cooking Surface
It’s a breeze to slide stew-laden pots or to utilize multiple burners with the heavy duty virtually continuous grate surface.”

      Thermador
Doesn’t have a trade name for the even working surface
      SGSX365CS
36″ SGSX STAINLESS STEEL GAS COOKTOP

      GE Cooktop
      GE® 36″ Built-In Gas Cooktop Model#: JGP628SEKSS

      Maytag MGC6536BD
“Continuous One-Piece Grates – make it easier to slide large pots across the cooktop”

Also check out consumer reports they are all for the cheeper models and I may be leaning toward them too.

Gas Range = 20″ by Premiere
Need to carry my bottled gas with me.
    No local install service available.

    • ANSWER:
You will need a regulator [preferably a two stage] and gas line.1/2″ OD. copper should be able to supply the stove up to 30′—-5/8″ OD will supply up to 80′.You will need 2 fittings for the ends of the gas line 1/2″ mip.x1/2″ or 5/8″ flare[stove fitting will be 1/2″ regulator fitting may be different depending on the regulator] and an adptor from the tank to the regulator. You may be able to get the place that sells you the copper and fittings to install the flare nuts and flare the ends of the copper. If not the flare tool is not too expensive. The tank should not be installed inside the cabin.Any Propane distributor will have what you need and most hardware stores will have the copper and fittings but not a regulator.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How much does it cost to convert an electric stove to gas?
We have a gas line running beneath the current electric stove, but we would need a line up from the floor. Just wondering about how much this should cost for when I start calling construction people.
We plan on buying a new stove but i prefer a gas one.

    • ANSWER:
If by convert you mean replace your electric stove with a gas one that wont be so hard. You will need to have a “t” installed on your gas line and then stub it up to next to the stove and you will need a 110V outlet. Relatively cheap project even if you need someone to do the work.

  2. QUESTION:
which is the good cookware for electric stove?
currently i m using Gas Stove but we r planning to move and all the aprtament have electric stove and i m not at all familiar with electric stove. can anyone help me? thanks for giving me reply.

    • ANSWER:
First of all, I’m sorry you have to use an electric stove. It is definitely a step down from gas.

No matter what kind of stove you’re cooking on, always buy the very best pans you can afford. I really like Le Creuset pots and Calphalon pans. The cost may be painful, but you’ll get many, many years of enjoyment out of them.

When cooking with electric, you have to keep a very close watch on the temperature, because it is harder to control than gas. Be prepared to take your pan off the burner rather than just turning the heat down, because it takes awhile for the burner to cool down.

That’s the most important thing. Good luck!

  4. QUESTION:
can I hook an electric dryer into a plug that an electric stove was in?
I got an electric dryer. I have a plug that was where the electric stove was. is there an amp or ohm difference?
    will there be a danger?

    • ANSWER:
There is an amp difference… dryers are typically 30 amp (check the plate on the back of yours to verify), while electric stoves are usually 40 amp. The plug is different too. A dryer plug will not fit into an outlet made for a stove.

If the location is where you want it, you can easily change the 40 amp breaker (replace it with a 30 amp breaker), and plug, and use the existing wire without any problems (assuming the wire is in good shape). If the dryer has the old 3 prong wire cord, this is a good time to upgrade it to the 4 wire cord while you’re at it.

All of the parts can be found at your local hardware or building supply store.

I would shut off the breaker to the circuit, replace the outlet, then shut off the main circuit breaker and swap out the breakers. Because the dryer plugs have prongs long enough your fingers could slip between them, I won’t even plug/unplug a dryer without shutting off the breaker.

When in doubt – call an electrician

      Good Luck

  5. QUESTION:
Is it cheaper to use gas or electric stove for cooking?
I have an electric stove that was given to me for free. The home that I am in is fitted for gas and I don’t have a gas stove as of yet. Would it be worth the cost to get an outlet installed and forget about the gas?

    • ANSWER:
All resources are expensive to use they are a commodities so we the consumer must pay for them, it also depends on how much do you cook , I have both stoves and the only difference is keeping them clean I love the self cleaning ovens so they use more energy when I clean the ovens, during black out I was glad to have the gas stove because I could cook . My advise to you would be to have both stove installed to serve you better in case of a large dinner party or even a possible black out .
