Lowes has a 00 whirlpool gold refrigerator for 00 because connection in compressor had to be replaced. Does not come with warranty – it was voided due to repair. Should I take a risk on this refrigerator?-

QUESTION:
My Whirlpool Gold Side by Side is blowing warm air, what can I do to troubleshoot it?
Side by Side Whirlpool Gold GD2SHAXKQ01 with ice maker – A few weeks ago we opened the freezer door in the morning to a flood of water (once was ice). Both the freezer & refrigerator were warm. Fans were still blowing, lights still on, sound like motor coming from beneath. I cleaned it out completely, vacuumed coils & did basic maintenance but still blew warm air. The next day I unplugged it and let it sit for 8 hours in case there was something frozen over causing the problem. Still just blows warm. I had a busy few weeks and could do nothing about repair (we had an old fridge in the basement & chest freezer to hold all food).I now have time to troubleshoot and am wondering what things to check. Maybe I made a mistake in leaving it plugged in (I thought it best to keep the air flowing to prevent molding, etc.). It actually continues to blow now at times, but still always warm.
What can you suggest and what other questions would you have?

ANSWER:
It sounds like the compressor is out. With the back cover off, plug it in and feel the compressor. If it is not running, it could be the start components. They are located under the plastic cover on the compressor. If the comp. IS running, it is probably freewheeling.
If the comp. is bad, and NOT under warranty, time for a new fridge. If under warranty, you’re O.K.!!!Good luck!!!

It is not a cheap repair and companies that do that type of work normally like to make a profit, so you are not going to find one company that is drastically cheaper than the others. If you shop around, I’m sure you can find someone who is a little cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Companies that do the best work have to charge more because they have more overhead. Training, tools, insurance, etc. Plus, a reputable contractor will stand behind their work. Have a fly by night company do the work and good luck getting them back if you have a problem.Edit: By the way, I do agree with gizmoe. You are better off with a new fridge.

What is the name of the removable plastic piece in my refrigerator that holds the 12 packs of pop?
I have a whirlpool gold model, and the little legs of this removable plastic shelf have snapped off. We make due, but would sure like to replace it. I can’t find our manual, and it has two numbers on it that don’t show up on google.
